Natural Ways To Say Goodbye To Plaque

Plaque

Plaque is like that uninvited guest who just won’t leave. It’s not just unsightly, but if left unchecked, can cause all sorts of dental problems. Fortunately, we have some home remedies to remove plaque at home.

What is plaque?

Plaque is a sticky, colourless film of bacteria that forms on your teeth and gums. It is a result of a build-up of bacteria that naturally occur in the mouth. Plaque can lead to yellow teeth, tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health problems if it is not removed regularly. The main cause of plaque is the accumulation of bacteria in the mouth. The mouth is home to a vast number of bacteria, and when these bacteria combine with food particles, saliva and other substances in the mouth, they can form a sticky film on the teeth and gums. Some factors that contribute to the formation of plaque include poor oral hygiene, a diet high in sugar and carbohydrates, dry mouth and certain medical conditions that affect saliva production. If plaque is not removed regularly through proper oral hygiene, it can harden into tartar, which can only be removed by a dentist or dental hygienist. Smoking and tobacco use can also contribute to the formation of plaque and increase the risk of gum disease. In addition, certain medications and medical conditions, such as diabetes, can also increase the risk of plaque formation.

How to remove plaque from teeth naturally?

1. Brush regularly with baking soda

Baking soda is a natural abrasive that can help remove plaque from your teeth. Mix a teaspoon of baking soda with a few drops of water to form a paste. Use the paste to brush your teeth for 2-3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. Baking soda can also help whiten your teeth and freshen your breath.
